Disclosure of Faults in Horizon System Software

Post Office Limited did not have the information requested.

Alan Bates (JFSA)

Dear Post Office Limited,

Has Post Office ever been made aware of faults within the software of their Horizon System that would have impacted in any way on the accuracy of the accounts of any post office?

Yours faithfully,

George Thomson, general secretary of the National Federation of SubPostmasters (NSFP), backed the Post Office: “We continue to have complete confidence in the Horizon system, which carries out hundreds of millions of transactions every week at 11,500 Post Office outlets across the country.
“The NFSP has seen no evidence to suggest that Horizon has been at fault and we believe it to be robust.”

Dear Post Office Limited,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Post Office Limited's handling of my FOI request 'Disclosure of Faults in Horizon System Software'.

I have not been requesting any detail in my initial request, I have purely been asking for a simple yes or no answer which I find hard to believe would take 18 hours to obtain or cost more than £450. From the reply you have given to my FOI request I can only draw the conclusion that either Post Office does not know the answer to my question or it is hidng behind Section 12(1) of the Act.

I would be obliged if you would look into the matter and obtain an answer to my request for me.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d...

Yours faithfully,

Alan Bates (JFSA)

I to have made a similar request but the answer is not forthcoming.
I agree with you that PO is hiding something.
Maybe the case should be tested in court and the truth is revealed you will find that indeed they do have the answer.
If the case sets a precedent then PO will liable for millions to the sub postmasters it has put out of business.

It is very hard to understand how this is deemed not to be the public's interest. People have lost their livlihoods and received custodial sentences for what they claim are faults within this IT system.

In one financial year within it's own Crown Network that accounts for 3% of the total network size Post Office ltd "wrote off" £2 million of un accountable losses yet never sought to reclaim one penny from it's own staff.
