2020 CCTV burglary and theft statistics

City of London Police Authority did not have the information requested.

Dear City of London Police Authority,

I am researching the impact of CCTV on burglary and theft cases and would like to request:

- 2020 stats on burglary and theft cases solved and proved with CCTV
- 2020 stats on burglary and theft cases not solved because of poor CCTV footage quality

Yours faithfully,

Will Waldron

COL-EB-InformationOfficer, City of London Police Authority

Dear Will Waldron,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

The City of London (CoL) acknowledges receipt of your request for information of 12 January 2020.

Public authorities are required to respond to requests within the statutory timescale of 20 working days beginning from the first working day after they receive a request. The Act does not always require public authorities to disclose the information which they hold.

The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and port health authority. The CoL is the local and police authority for the "Square Mile", ie the historic City of London, and not for London as a whole. Please see the following page containing a link to a map (City of London - Interactive Mapping), which shows the local authority area covered by the CoL:
https://www.mapping.cityoflondon.gov.uk/...

The CoL does have some functions, including Port Health Authority functions, which extend beyond the City boundary. For further information please see: www.cityoflondon.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,

COL-EB-InformationOfficer, City of London Police Authority

Dear Will Waldron,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Following your request of 12 January 2021 and our acknowledgement of the same date, the City of London (CoL) responds as follows:

The CoL confirms in accordance with section 1(1)(a) of the FOIA that it does not hold the information that you have requested.

Please note that public facing CCTV within the CoL boundary is the responsibility of the City of London Police (CoLP), which is the data controller for any CCTV footage recorded by it. This is perhaps unusual for a local authority area and may be linked with the national and international importance of security within the City.

The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and port health authority; and to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD), which it manages. Subject to any other statutory provisions requiring the CoL to disclose information, release of information outside the scope of the Act is subject to the discretion of the CoL.

In addition, the CoL as a local authority and police authority is a separate body from the City of London Police for the purpose of compliance with the FOIA. In addition, please note that the City of London Police is the Police Force for the Square Mile. Beyond this, the Metropolitan Police Force (commonly referred to as 'the MET') is the Police Force for the rest of London ('Greater London'). The rest of England is covered by various other police forces.

In so far as you require the information for the "Square Mile", you may wish to contact the City of London Police. The FOI email address for the City of London Police is:

We hope that this response is of assistance.
