Thank you for your correspondence dated 17 December 2013 requesting information on 
handbooks for recruits, promotion statistics and family members serving together.  Your 
enquiry has been considered to be a request for information in accordance with the 
Freedom of Information Act 2000.  
 
I can confirm that the Department holds the following information you requested and taking 
your questions in turn:- 
 
Q1. 
A handbook etc that the Royal Navy issue to all new recruits 
 
A1. 
Attached to this email are the handbooks for HMS Raleigh and the Commando 
Training Centre Royal Marines, please note this publication is due to be reviewed.  For 
Britannia Royal Naval College the handbook is on a CD-Rom and will be despatched to the 
postal address you provided. 
 
Q2. 
The number of promotions at each rank that have been approved in 2012 and to 
date in 2013

seniority/time served.
