Dear Prof Trevor Ashenden,
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information (ATI0000876) under the provisions of the
Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
“In 2009 the Marine Conservation Society was awarded a grant of £40,000 for a project to raise the
public's awareness of HPMCZ.According to a previous FOI response the reference number is
GU9103. At the start of the project there would have been some form of document to define what the
outcomes and deliverables of the grant would be.
The purpose of the grant was to raise awareness of the marine biodiversity of Welsh waters, and the
need for and benefits of designating highly protected sites to help conserve biodiversity and support
ecosystem recovery and resilience. A further purpose was to encourage public interaction with the site
selection process.
At the end of the project there would have been some form of report submitted by MCS setting out
what had been done for the public funds given.
We request copies of these documents so that we can see what was done to make the people of Wales
aware of HPMCZ”.
Please see attached a copy of the final report. In order to provide you with as much information as
possible, we have also attached copies of several output reports received at each claim period of the
grant (every three months), along with CCW notes to authorise payment of each claim. Unfortunately
we have been unable to locate one of these output reports. Nevertheless, the seven output documents
provided clearly show how we assessed the project as it progressed and exactly what was undertaken as
part of the grant.
Please note that this information is covered by copyright law.
We now consider that we have complied with your request. However, if you are dissatisfied with our
response you are entitled to pursue this matter through our appeals and complaints procedure, a copy of
which is attached
Yours sincerely
Donna Muirhead
