I am writing in response to your email received by Post Office Limited on
23 July 2012, which I am dealing with under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

In your email you requested the following information:

For how many years do Royal Mail/Post Office Limited hold details of the
amount of subpostmasters/mistresses prosecuted in a year, and which years
do they have records of?

I can confirm that we hold data from 2005 onwards. Additionally, we hold
each prosecution case files for up to a maximum of 7 years.  In
exceptional circumstances a file may be retained for a longer period, for
example in instances where a subpostmaster has absconded the country.
