Ministry of Defence
A ministerial department and an airport operator, also called MOD
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is the UK government department responsible for implementation of government defence policy and for the British Armed Forces.[1] The MoD manages the day to day running of the armed forces, contingency planning and defence procurement. The military professional structure is embodied in the three single Services (the Royal Navy, Army, and the Royal Air Force).[1]
If you are seeking information related to your own or others' service, including historical information, see Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide - How to apply for access to personal data held by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).Seeking information about a Military vehicle? We have noticed many requests for information regarding vehicles which were formerly used by the Armed Forces (also known as a MERLIN report). The MOD have made an extract of MERLIN available on their website which might answer your query. Correspondence seeking the documents required to register an ex-military vehicle should be sent directly and privately to the Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) which is the organisation responsible for disposing of former military vehicles.
