The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a public broadcaster in the UK and one of the largest broadcasting organisation in the world.^[1] The BBC is funded by the TV licence fee that is paid by UK households and business who have televisions.^[1] The BBC is independent from direct government intervention, its activities being overseen by the BBC Board and regulated by Ofcom.^[2] The BBC provides nine national TV channels (BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC, CBeebies, BBC News, BBC Parliament, and, BBC Alba) as well as radio broadcasting, BBC Online and BBC iPlayer.^[3]

‘TV Licensing’ is a trade mark of the BBC and is used under licence by companies paid to administer the collection of TV licence fees and enforcement of TV licensing on behalf of the BBC.^[4]

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 you have the right to information held by the BBC except for information the BBC holds for the purposes of journalism, art or literature.
