Dear University of Glasgow,
Would it be possible to discover, broken down by service, the
aggregate total numbers of days that senior managers (at Grade 7
and above) within University Services have spent 'working from
home' without taking annual leave in the last year? And to what
extent this facility is officially extended, as part of the Terms
and Conditions of Employment, to staff on higher grades?
Yours faithfully,
mr s cross

Dear FOI Office,
Would it be possible to get a more comprehensive set of figures, i
cant help but notice that some key services are missing, namely:
Developement and Alumni
Library
Corportate Communications
Hospitality
Huntarian
Recruitment and International Office
Language Center
Finance
Purchasing
Registry
and can i ask if the figure quoted for computing is for the whole
of IT/Services.
The reason i'm requesting this information is twofold:
1) I'm doing some research into management structures and one of
the phenomenon that I'm investigating is whether because managers
are 'working from home' and not on-site 'managing' their resources
including subordinate staff, this leads to unnecessary bloat and
bureaucracy as more managers are recruited at intermediate levels
to cover the responsibilities; and
2) Because I feel that you have been a little economical with the
truth, I wonder exactly how widespread this practice is and exactly
what value I'm getting as a tax payer form these non-academic
staff?
Yours sincerely,
Mr Steve Cross

Dear FOI Reviews,
I find this hard to believe since as the Employer the University
has an obligation to carry out a health and safety risk assessment
of every employee's work activities at home. As well Health and
Safety, are there not insurance issues and something about the
Working Time Regulations.
So if you say so but it all seems rather irregular that you don't
know which of your staff are working where.
Yours sincerely,
mr steve cross
