What is the national debt, and what do we owe if fiat money has no value?

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to know who the national debt is owed to and what
exactly is owed. In a recent FOI request to yourselves part of the
response was:
Money is whatever is accepted in a society as payment for goods and
services, or for
repayment of debts. Gold is a form of what is called ‘commodity
money’, not created,
but perceived as having value in itself. Modern ‘currency’ is known
as ‘fiat money’: it is
artificially created, has no value in itself and the basis for its
use in exchange is typically
a government edict.
So if modern money has no value, what exactly do we owe?

Dear Paul,
I thank you for your reply but unfortunately it had very little to
do with my FOI.
No questions answered, lots of random text about how the national
debt is managed but as a human born in this land that has been
paying tax all of his life i think i have the right along with the
rest of the huamns on this land paying taxes to know where our hard
earned money is going do we not? And as the Treasury of the British
Government i fail to understand how you cannot answer this rather
simple question.
Secondly i asked what is owed if fiat money is not backed by
anything it only has a percieved value, then what is owed. I
already know the answer to this question i am simply trying to get
an honest reply from someone in this corrupt goverment or any of
its departments to acknowledge that it is "Eternal Wage Slavery"
that we owe.
And the reason it is eternal is that this country is so badly in
debt that the taxes paid by the people of this country only go to
pay off a portion of the Interest owed on the national debt. Isnt
this the case? If im wrong please correct me or inform me of at
least one person on this planet that can actually answer the
questions i posed in my first FOI.
Kind Regards
Andrew B.
P.S People are waking up to the lies, deception and corruption of
goverments worldwide this is why all these awkward questions are
coming to light.
