Victoria Square Fountain Leak
Ben Whitehouse made this Freedom of Information request to Birmingham City Council
The request was successful.
From: Ben Whitehouse
7 August 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request information about the decision to continue
filling the Victoria Square fountain and it running despite it
leaking. It's been widely reported that the fountain is leaking and
the city council has allocated £70,000 to finding the source of the
current leak and correcting it.
I would like to know:
1. How many times the fountain been filled, switched on, drained &
refilled in the last 12 months?
2. Who makes the decision for the fountain to be filled, switched
on and drained and the process by which these decisions are made.
3. The initial cost estimate of the work to repair the fountain and
the current costs.
4. Who is doing this work? (e.g. which unit, division, section,
agency, company,etc.)?
5. How much water the council estimates has been lost through leaks
in the last 12 months.
6. All progress/status reports and emails sent relating to this
work.
My preferred format to receive this information is by electronic
means. If one part of this request can be answered sooner than
others, please send that information first followed by any
subsequent data. If you need any clarification of this request
please feel free to email me. If FOI requests of a similar nature
have already been asked could you please include your responses to
those requests.
I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have
received this request, and I look forward to hearing from you
within the 20-working day statutory time period.
Yours faithfully,
Ben Whitehouse

Dear Birmingham City Council,
Further to my FOI request regarding the Victoria Square Fountain
leak I was hoping you'd be able to provide me with some further
information regarding the fountain.
1) Could you provide me with an overview of how the works on the
fountain are progressing and estimated completion date & budget?
2) One of the statues within the fountain, part of the Youth
artwork by Dhruva Mistry (a female figure kneeling) has recently
gone missing (March 17th.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/benjidubyah... ). Can you
clarify where the statue is? What the cause for the missing statue
is and the predicted return date?
Yours faithfully,
Ben Whitehouse
