1. How many students graduated from your establishment in 2006

2. How many students graduated from your establishment in 2007

3. How many students graduated from your establishment in 2008

4. How many requests, from external individuals or organisations ,
to confirm the degree qualification of a former student at your
establishment, were received in 2006.

Further to your recent enquiry we are now able to provide the University's response.

The data for this request has been sourced from HEIDI - Higher Education Information Database for Institutions. heidi is a web-based management information service that provides easy access to a rich source of quantitative data about higher education. Heidi is run by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

By using data provided by HESA the data is much more robust.

The data used is the HESA qualifications obtained population. This is a count of student enrolments associated with the award of an HE qualification (excluding HE institutional credits) during the period 1 August to 31 July inclusive. This population includes qualifications obtained during the reporting year, which were returned to HESA during the Autumn data collection following the end of the reporting year.

The qualifications obtained population excludes qualifications awarded to incoming visiting and exchange students. This population includes awards from dormant status.

2005/06 = 7,625
2006/07 = 7,230
2007/08 = 9,955

Due to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998, HESA implements a strategy in published and released tabulations designed to prevent the disclosure of personal information about any individual. These tabulations are derived from the HESA non-statutory populations and may differ slightly from those published by related statutory bodies. This strategy involves rounding all numbers to the nearest multiple of 5.

The central department which deals with requests to confirm the degree qualification of former students have advised the following figures for

2006/7= 535

2007/8 =355

Unfortunately we do not hold a record of the number of requests prior to 2006/7.
