I do apologise - I have unexpected been out of the office. I have assembled quite a corpus of material that is in electronic format but I have also just been informed that there is material on paper that may be relevant and I am awaiting further information on this.

I will forward a response with the electronic materials immediately. Paper materials can be copied and sent but the University is permitted to levy a charge for the photocopying (5p per A4 page) so I will need to provide you with a schedule of content so you can select any items you require.

Dear Owen Parry,

I would prefer to receive documents in an electronic format. The
contents of SmallAnimalsDocuments.zip appears to indicate that the
University has a scanner at their disposal. If this facility is no
longer available to you, perhaps I could obtain one for you? They
are relatively inexpensive and would contribute to the convenience
and satisfaction of other Freedom of Information requests that you
may receive in the
future.

If that is not possible then I am most interested in the
documentation of how this course has met the requirements for
'Health Studies Validation' published at
http://www.wales.ac.uk/Resources/Documen...,
in particular point five. Please could you let me know which of the
offered documents this is contained in.

Yours sincerely,

James Davis

Thank you for your reply. Indeed the University does have a scanner and I can arrange for the documents to be scanned.

However, the University is allowed to charge for the cost of communicating the information to an enquirer and we would therefore wish to make a charge for the staff time spent scanning the papers, at the same rate as for photocopying.

As this is the first time that this has come up, I have taken the opportunity to make enquiries with the ICO as to whether my interpretation of their own advice e is correct and if such a charge is acceptable. Until such a time as they respond, I can only invite you to agree to pay the fee and I will provide the materials. Should the ICO rule against us, I will happily refund the fee.

Please let me know if you wish me to proceed.

Dear Owen Parry,

Thank you for your advice and explanation on this matter. In order
to save myself any extra expense I am most interested in the
information of direct interest to me.

As mentioned this is the documentation of how this course has met
the requirements for 'Health Studies Validation' published at
http://www.wales.ac.uk/Resources/Documen..., in particular point
five. Please could you let me know which of the offered documents
this is contained in.

My colleague who deals with this scheme has now responded to your specific enquiry concerning the Validation criteria as follows:

"The list of criteria was only introduced into the Quality handbook last year and would be used by Health Studies Committee/TVDB when judging at the initial vetting stage whether an application could proceed, so this validation would not have gone through that process."

She has indicated that there is no specific location for such information within schemes which have not been validated since the introduction of the criteria.

So no, the University has kept no record of any scientific studies underpinning the principles of the discipline, in which a Master of Science degree is being offered.
