Dear Jennifer Jones,

In response to your Freedom of Information request, received on
06/03/2008, concerning investments in businesses that deal in arms and
weaponry.

Under section 1(3) of the Freedom of Information Act the University can
seek clarification to a request where it reasonably requires more
information for the purposes of identifying and locating the information
in question.

I need to inform you that the expression "businesses that deal in arms
and weaponry or that are involved in organising arms fairs" is less than
clear and we would require more specific information before proceeding
with your request.

More generally however I am able to inform you that University
investment in companies, some part of which are in the arms trade, is
currently less than 3% of the University's portfolio.

I can also inform you that a good deal of this type of sector specific
information, is already fully available to the public from the CAAT
website, which you can find at: http://www.studywarnomore.org.uk/
