Derrick Scholey made this Freedom of Information request to Ordnance Survey

The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,
First of all I apologise if I am approaching the wrong Dept., if so
would appreciate your redirecting of same. I refer to page 22 of
the Ramblers magazine Walk - autumn edition, a full pag advert for
OS maps. A pleasing photo, you credit the photographer but the most
important piece of imformation is missing - where on earth is it ?
It would appear to be in the Yorkshire Dales near Haylands Bridge,
which I have never heard of and the view I would guess could be
Wensleydale or Wharfedale but I could still be way off the beaten
track. The advert says that OS maps are packed with helpful
details, would it be too much to ask to add the helpful detail of
the location to the advertisement ? If it is any consolation you
are not alone in this sort of omission, the Walk magazine is also
guilty and they like you should know better. I just wonder how many
other readers are as frustrated as I am seeing an appealing view
such as this that would warrent a visit but have no idea where it
is? It reminds me of drivers going round a traffic island and
failing to indicate their directions even though they have controls
at their fingertips thus frustrating drivers trying to get onto the
island and causing delays and hold-ups. It is both sloppy, idle and
inconsiderate.
Regards Derrick Scholey

Dear Tony Gray, Ref 72043
This is my third attempt to contact you via this system. Apparently
I have to go through the "preview your message" route, something
that does not make sense to me at all, but when you are 72 years
old you suddenly find out that computer programmers have in many
cases changed the meaning of half the words in the English
dictionary ! However I digress. I just wanted to express my thanks
to you for your prompt and positive response to my query. I am much
obliged to you and I am sure that many other countrygoers will
appreciate this small attention to detail.
Hoping that the message arrives this time
Regards Derrick Scholey
