Unannounced visits to Dog Breeders since 01.12.2008

Dear Sir/Madam,

I refer to your request for information regarding dog breeding
establishments, which was received on 7^th January, 2009 and has been
dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The specific information you requested was the total number of unannounced
visits by the Authority to licensed dog breeders in Carmarthenshire
between 1^st December, 2008 and 7^th January, 2009.

I can confirm that whilst details of all visits are recorded, the
electronic system used by the Authority does not currently specify whether
a visit record or was unannounced or pre-arranged visits. As such, we do
not hold the information you have requested.

However, I would add that it is normal practice to carry out unannounced
visits and the majority would not be arranged beforehand with the dog
breeder. The Authority is also looking at setting up our system to record
whether visits are unannounced or otherwise.
