Dear Cheshire East Council,
Your predecessor, Congleton Borough Council, operated from
Westfields in Sandbach with a UC Registered Number: UC3358636.
1. Does "Cheshire East Council" (operating from the same address),
have a UC Registered Number and if so what is it?
2. I note that "Cheshire East Council" is a "brand name" for
"Cheshire East Borough Council", so does Cheshire East Borough
Council have a UC Registered Number and if so what is it?
3. If Cheshire East Council currently has no UC Registered Number,
will it have one after April 1st following a full year of trading?

explanation is that it has merely been forgotten to be attached

Dear Rose,
Sincere thanks for your attempt to answer my questions, and most
intriguing response. I have spent many months researching and
humbly suggest that your definitive statement that Congleton
Borough Council had no "UC Registered Number" is not entirely
accurate (although fully accept that neither you nor the members of
the council may be cognizant of it). I am already aware that it has
nothing to do with "Companies House".
If I may shed a little illumination on the matter for you; UC
stands for "Unincorporated Company", one that is "doing business"
and of which Credit Reference Agencies will supply "credit reports"
which include such information as CCJ's. Strangely, since men and
women such as myself have started to uncover information from
companies like Duport, the data vanishes back into the aether.
HOWEVER, you may see for yourself the evidence that Congleton
Borough Council did indeed have such a UC number allocated to them
(two in point of fact) simply by visiting the website below and
typing in "Congleton Borough Council" into the "UK & Irish Company
Search" facility as I have just done.

Further to your message of 3rd March.
Thank you for the information you have provided. We have already clarified the former Council's legal status in our earlier reply; I suggest it is a matter for third parties, such as the credit reference agencies to which you refer to, as to how they categorise the bodies about which they provide information. I believe that we have provided you with a response that complies with our FOIA obligations in that the council does not hold the information which you have supplied us with so we have been unable to supply it to you. The rest of our reply was in the spirit of our obligation to assist.
