UAV Drone flight plans
A Freedom of Information request to Merseyside Police by Daniel Taylor
Merseyside Police did not have the information requested.
Daniel Taylor
30 July 2008
Dear Sir or Madam,
In May 2007 it was reveled that Merseyside Police had put into
action an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or 'drone' as they are
more commonly called, for the purposes of monitoring public
disorder, large crowds and traffic congestion.
The manufacturer of these drones specifies in their marketing
materials that these 'drones' could be flown by remote control or
by pre-programmed GPS.
With this in mind, I would like to request a copy of all
pre-programmed GPS routes that the drone(s) have been instructed to
complete, along side any other relevant information regarding the
flight plans for the drone(s) (both for remote control flying and
pre-programmed GPS flights).
Yours faithfully, Daniel Taylor

Dear Mr Taylor,
I am writing with regard to your Freedom Of Information
request CADT-7H3DKW concerning the UAV/Drone. In your request you make
reference to requesting "flight plans for the drone both for remote control
flying and pre-programmed GPS flights". I am currently gathering
information for your request and whilst I am clear of your meaning by
pre-programmed GPS flights I am uncertain of the meaning of "flight plans
for the drone for remote control flying". By this are you referring to
routes, route maps and coordinates ? I would be grateful if you could
clarify this point as soon as possible in order that I can attend to your
request as quickly as possible. Thank you.

Carl,
Yes that's right, I believe the drone can be controlled/flown
remotely by a human operator, and I presume when this occurs the
human operator has some idea (i.e. a plan) of where he/she will be
flying the drone.
Hope that helps clear that up.
Yours sincerely, Daniel
