Dear D Graham

In your email, which we received on 09/10/2009, you asked for the
following information:

Please tell me how much money the Harrogate Council is paying Transdev
via our Council Tax to support the Harrogate Travel and Any/ Other bus
transport part-funded by Harrogate Council

In response, I can advise you as follows:

Harrogate Borough Council is a Travel Concession Authority, responsible
for the statutory provision of concessionary travel within its boundary.
This means that the Council must reimburse Bus Operators for
concessionary journeys made by eligible pass holders, where the journey
begins in Harrogate District. The Council is a member of the North
Yorkshire Concessionary Fares Partnership consisting of the seven North
Yorkshire district councils and City of York Council.

The cost of concessionary travel is partly funded from Central
Government and partly from Council funds. This cost is not directly
linked to the Council Tax paid by local residents.

The sum paid by the Council to Bus Operators for the provision of
concessionary travel in the financial year ending 31 March 2009 was
£2,620,348. Below is a list of Operators who received concessionary
reimbursement from the Council:

Abbotts Coaches
Arriva Yorkshire
Atkinson Coaches
Bulmers Vintage Omnibus Services
Dales & Bowland
First Bradford
Harrogate Community Transport
Harrogate & District Travel
Harrogate Coach Travel
Hodgsons & Sons
Hutchinsons
J K Murgatroyd
Procters Coaches
Rainbow Travel
Royal Mail Postbus
John Smiths & Sons
