Dear Sir or Madam,

Could you please tell me whether since 31st January 2003 DfT has
received any requests from Traffic Authorities for a special
direction allowing use of a plate to diagram 954.4 of the Traffic
Signs Regulations 2002 ("Except cycles") in conjunction with a sign
to diagram 616 (no entry)?

Could you also please tell me whether any such directions have been
given, and if so tell me the date and Traffic Authority
corresponding to each direction.

Dear Mr Harris

Thank you for your request for information regarding all special directions that this Department has issued, to allow authorities to use the plate to diagram 954.4 in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 with the sign to diagram 616. Your request was received in this Division on 13 February and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

In response to a previous freedom of information request, our electronic databases showing all traffic sign authorisations and special directions that we have issued have been placed on our website. The 2008 database is not complete as it finishes in October but I will check from that date to todays for any successful application. You may wish to check the database which can be viewed at - http://www.dft.gov.uk/foi/responses/2008... .

I will check our records from 31 January 2003 for any applications that we had received but which were unsuccessful.

Dear Ms Tracey,

Ref F0004997

I've checked the on-line lists, and none of them explicitly
mentions diagrams 954.4 or 616. That's not very conclusive, though,
since few of the descriptions are detailed enough to mention
diagram numbers anyway, so I don't think it answers my question.

I am writing regarding your request, number 4997. I am aware that you are waiting for a full reply but unfortunately I have had difficulties in retrieving one file from our storage facility. I hope that this will be delivered within the next 24 hours. If I do not receive it today, a full reply would not be possible until Friday 13th at the earliest as I will be out of the office all day tomorrow.

I am very sorry about this. For your information, so far I have not found any application regarding the use of the plate to diagram 954.4 with the no entry sign, but a full, formal response will be sent after I have checked the last file.
