Dear John

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) on 15th March 2009. Please note that the LGA is not covered by the provisions of the Act, but we always try to deal with such requests within the spirit of the legislation.

We have considered your request for information relating to the LGA Group's involvement with The Innovation Unit. Please see answers to your 4 specific questions as per below;

1) The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), part of the LGA Group, is the only part of the organisation that has worked with The Innovation Unit. The IDeA have only worked on one project with The Innovation Unit, entitled the Innovation Catalyst.

2) The objective of the Innovation Catalyst project is to assist the overall goal of developing a new framework for a single integrated approach to supporting innovation and excellence in local government. This Catalyst will specifically help generate, incubate and spread innovation in local government. The timeframe for this project was the financial year 2008/09. Therefore the current status of this project is "closed".

3) £300,000 of Revenue Support Grant funding has been used on the Innovation Catalyst project from the LGA Group.

4) The name and job title of the person in charge of this project is Paul Roberts, Managing Director of the IDeA
