Robert Eriksohn made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions
The request was refused by Department for Work and Pensions.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Pursuant to my request dated 28th January 2009 which can be found
at: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/te.... You
state BDC’s “do not have a geographical single number. BDC’s have
their own dedicated geographical telephone numbers” This seems to
be a contradiction to the details you provided, which consisted of
non-geographical telephone numbers – please could you provide the
geographical ones.
For what reason do you use 0845 numbers instead of those starting
01xxx, 02xx or 03xx and who made this decision and when? Was any
public consultation carried out?
Ofcom states on its web site: “We do, however, encourage public
bodies to use the cheaper 03 number range where possible”
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consumeradvice/l....
What consideration has been made to implementing Ofcom’s advice?
Yours faithfully,
Robert Eriksohn

Dear Sir or Madam,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work
and Pensions's handling of my FOI request 'Telephone Numbers'.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/te...
I fail to see how this would bring the system to a grinding halt as
it has worked in the past. Also there are telephone providers other
than bt which itself charges considrably more for calls to
non-geographic numbers with it's tariff aimed specifically at those
on benifit.
For these reasons I would be greatfull if you could reconsider the
exemption.
Additionaly I take it from the strikeing out that you will no
longer call someone back where they would find it difficult to meet
the cost.
Can explain what is ment by the term 'standard rate' when refering
to call costs.
Yours faithfully,
Robert Eriksohn
