Technical background to updated version of the water calculator used within the Code for Sustainable Homes
Margery Slater made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Communities and Local Government
The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am aware that the water calculator that is used to calculate
water use for new houses under the 'Code for Sustainable Homes' has
recently changed. I would like to see the technical reports that
underly this change, in particular the scientific justification for
the 'normalisation factor'.
Yours faithfully,
Margery Slater

Dear Jeannette Henderson,
Please could you update me on the progress of this request.
I had assumed that since the water calculator has been updated,
there would be background reports on the evidence that spelt out
the way in which these changes had been decided on. The
normalisation factor was not present in the initial water
calculator, so I would expect you to have some kind of report on
why it is necessary and how the value is arrived at?
The background and evidence base for the energy requirements and
SAP are well documented and in the public domain. Since the water
element of CSH is also mandatory, it is difficult to see why a
similar range of background information is not available.
In short, I don't think I am asking a particularly complicated
question, so I am rather frustrated at how slow the response is in
coming!
Yours sincerely,
Margery Slater

Dear Department for Communities and Local Government,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Department for
Communities and Local Government's handling of my FOI request
'Technical background to updated version of the water calculator
used within the Code for Sustainable Homes'.
This request was made in December last year. Despite following this
up a couple of times, there has been nothing other than a 'holding'
response from DCLG.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:
