Taxable and non-taxable savings vehicles

Franc McLaughlin made this Freedom of Information request to The Financial Services Authority

The Financial Services Authority did not have the information requested.

From: Franc McLaughlin

19 December 2009

Dear Financial Services Authority,

On your 'savings account choices' web page in 'money made clear'
please disclose the reason why the options at question 3 don't
include 'show all' as at question 5. I understand that a fair
comparison of taxable savings with non-taxable would require you to
show the equivalent value after tax at particular rates; I think
other websites do this.

Yours faithfully,

Franc McLaughlin

In order that we can deal with this matter as quickly as possible please do not delete the Subject line of this email when you reply. You can add further wording to it but please do not Remove "ISS01163266".

Dear Mr McLaughlin

Thank you for your email dated 19 December 2009.

Your Enquiry

You have asked why on our Money Made Clear website under 'savings account choices' why you can not view all taxable and tax free accounts. I appreciate you state other websites do provide this facility and you would like to know our reasons for not providing the same on website.

Our Response

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I am sorry to hear that you dissatisfied with our FSA Comparative Tables function on our consumer website.

Under the savings account choices question 5 has the " show all" functions so that you can see what accounts are available to Adults and Children and young people. We do not show all accounts that are taxable and tax free because you can only see one version of the table (tax free or taxable) at a time, because you can't directly compare the two sets of information.

We have taken your feedback on board and forwarded this onto the relevant department that are responsible for our Money Made Clear website.

I hope this is helpful.

Yours sincerely

Sonia Gill (Miss)
