Dear Xiaoping,
I sent a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to the
Great Britain-China Centre on 6 August 2008: "Would you please
indicate whether your
Centre has had any correspondence with any branch of the
authorities based in Taiwan or any overseas mission thereof,
between 18 March 2000 and 20 May 2008. A yes-or-no answer would
suffice."
Section 10(1) of Freedom of Information Act 2000 (c. 36) provides
that "Subject to subsections (2) and (3), a public authority must
comply with section 1(1) promptly and in any event not later than
the twentieth working day following the date of receipt." As it has
been more than 20 days since you received my request, it appears
that your Centre is in breach of this provision.
I ask you please to provide me with a response immediately. Thank
you.
Sincerely,
Dr Kaihsu Tai

Dear Kaisu Tai
I'm afraid that as far as I can see you original message sent in August
was never received by us. I assure you that if your message had been
seen we would have replied immediately, if only to acknowledge receipt.
In any case, I can give you a simple NO to your question. We have never
had direct dealings with any groups or individuals from Taiwan, either
official or unofficial.
Sincerely,
Laura Rivkin
