Suspension of childcare providers
Mr T Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Office for Standards in Education
The request was partially successful.
From: Mr T Smith
7 November 2009
Dear Sirs
Please could you provide me with the following information:
1) How many childcare providers (childminders and daycare/nursery
owners) had their registrations suspended by Ofsted during the year
1 September 2008 - 31 August 2009.
2) What was the average length of time that these registrations
remained suspended.
3) How many suspended registrations appealed against their
suspension and were successful/not successful in this appeal.
4) How many suspended registrations were eventually cancelled by
yourselves.
5) Also, if you hold this information as statistics, what were the
general breakdown of reasons for the suspensions. I am not
requesting personal information about specific cases, just an
overall idea of whether suspensions are usually linked to criminal
investigations, looking into allegations against individuals,
removing some source of danger on the premises, etc. I'm aware that
you suspend registrations because children are at risk of harm but
if there are categories within this over-arching reason then that
would be helpful.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Yours faithfully,
Mr T Smith
