From: Nigel Parr
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

10 August 2010

Dear Mr Whitehouse,

I refer to your recent Freedom of Information enquiry, requesting the
following information:

"I would like copies of the following documents:

1) Asbestos Management Plan
2) Hazard plans for:
Radon Protection
Structural Integrity
Electrical Safety

3) Contaminated Land survey

For the following schools that were part of the BSF programme until
recently:

Bristnall Hall
Heathfield
Manor
Meadows
Menzies
New KS4 and Therapeutic Units
Perryfields
Stuart Bathurst RC
Wood Green

4) All progress/status reports and emails sent relating to the
preparations of these materials, information and plans"

With regard to question 1, I can confirm that Sandwell Council does
undertake asbestos surveys within schools, but overall responsibility for
the management of asbestos lies with the individual schools. However, I
have noticed that your request relates specifically to schools that were,
until recently, part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF)
programme. I can confirm that the Council does not hold an Asbestos
Management Plan in relation to these schools as Wave 5 of this project did
not commence. Had this wave commenced, a plan would have been
commissioned.

Likewise, with regard to question 2 and 3, I can confirm that Sandwell
Council does not hold these plans, due to Wave 5 of the BSF project not
being entered into. Again, relevant plans would have been commissioned,
had this been necessary.

Finally, in respect of your fourth question, as these plans were not
commissioned, the Council holds no information pertaining to their
preparation.

If you require any clarification in respect of this response, please do
not hesitate to contact me.

Alternatively, if you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request,
you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests
should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the
response to your request, and should be addressed to:
