Surveillance of Disabled Children

Petrona made this Freedom of Information request to Nottinghamshire County Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Petrona

13 March 2010

Dear Nottinghamshire County Council,

I'd like to request all recorded information you have pertaining to
disabled children and complaints please?

1. How many families with disabled children
have been under surveillance by the Social Services Dept or have
carers / agencies who are forced to make reports regarding the
children and their families, since July 2007 please?

2. Has there been any complaints from families of disabled children
regarding social workers since July 2007, if so how many complaints
against social workers has there been regarding children with
disabilities or where a family has children with disabilities and
complaints against other care- services been made and recorded?

The point is, it's my experience that some councils make it
intolerable for some parents and carers to live without their
assistance but bully parents and carers in outrageous and secret
fashion, threatening to take the children into care should the
parent complain, and put the parents or carers into a position
where they cause such extreme circumstances that there is no
alternative but to use a court order in order to remove children,
some social workers collude to make life abject hell for carers of
disabled children in some, rare, cases and it must be exposed to
prevent tragedy.

Yours faithfully,

Petrona

12 April 2010

Dear Petrona

I am writing to you in reply to your Freedom of Information Act request. I
am able to provide the following information:

1. How many families with disabled children
have been under surveillance by the Social Services Dept or have
carers / agencies who are forced to make reports regarding the
children and their families, since July 2007 please?

All Local Authorities have a statutory duty to safeguard and protect
children in their Local Authority from harm. Within Nottinghamshire, there
have been 32 disabled children subject to a Child Protection Plan since
July 2007.

2. Has there been any complaints from families of disabled children
regarding social workers since July 2007, if so how many complaints
against social workers has there been regarding children with
disabilities or where a family has children with disabilities and
complaints against other care- services been made and recorded?

a) Between 1 April 2007 *** 31 March 2008, 13 complaints were received
about disabled children***s services. However, due to a change in the
database, it is not possible to determine whether these complaints were
against social workers or whether there were complaints received from
families with a disabled child against other social care services.

b) Between 1 April 2008 *** 21 March 2009, 7 complaints were received
about disabled children***s services, 2 of these complaints were about
social workers.

4 complaints were received from families with a disabled child about other
social care services. None of these complaints were against social
workers.

c) Between 1 April 2009 *** 28 February 2010, 9 complaints were received
about disabled children***s services. None of these were complaints
against social workers.

4 complaints were received from families with a disabled child about other
social care services. None of these complaints were about social workers.

If you have any further enquiries regarding this matter please do not
hesitate to contact me.
