openstreetmap.com "what monitoring of this, or other similar websites is
performed, to ensure that they do not infringe any copyrights, or other
rights held by Ordnance Survey?

Ordnance Survey is considering your request under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA). As your request was received by us on 06
October 2009 we will provide you with a full response within 20 working
days as required by the FOIA, meaning by 03 November 2009.

Thank you for your email dated 6 October 2009 requesting: What monitoring
of `Openstreetmap' or other similar websites is performed, to ensure that
they do not infringe any copyrights, or other rights held by Ordnance
Survey?

We are pleased to provide you with the following information with regard
to your request.

Ordnance Survey does not continually monitor such websites. We only
investigate potential breaches of copyright where they have been referred
to us.

'OpenStreetMap' has been referred to us previously. We completed a full
technical analysis on the methods of production. We are satisfied no
infringement of Ordnance Survey Crown copyright is taking place.

Other similar websites have been referred to us and again after a full
investigation we are satisfied no infringement of Crown copyright is
taking place.

Please note that your enquiry has been processed to Freedom of Information
guidelines. As all requested information has been provided, we have
determined that in all the circumstances of this case the Public
interest consideration (section 17 FOIA) is not applicable in this
instance.
