Status of the various "HM Treasuries"

Veronica Chapman made this Freedom of Information request to Her Majesty’s Treasury

The request was successful.

From: Veronica Chapman

30 August 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Under the Freedom of Information Act I request the answer to the
following questions:

According to the information available via Dun & Bradstreet, some
five Companies/Corporations exist, having addresses in the United
Kingdom, and they have the same 'Legal Name' as yourselves.

These are listed (by D&B) as follows:

Legal Name: H M Treasury Treasury Chambers, LONDON Headquarters

Legal Name: H M TREASURY ROOM 35A/GRY, PARLIAMENT STREET, LONDON
Branch

Legal Name: H M TREASURY FINLAISON HO, LONDON Branch

Legal Name: H M TREASURY Easycheap Court, LONDON Branch

Legal Name: H M TREASURY Allington Court, LONDON Branch

1. Could you please be so kind as to confirm that these PRIVATE
COMPANIES have no connection whatsoever with yourselves, "HM
Treasury", and

2. That the general impression of HM Treasury as being an OFFICIAL
GOVERNMENT AGENCY (in other words an arm of the Government for
which the Electorate vote - as opposed to merely a PRIVATE COMPANY)
is true and correct?

3. If, on the other hand, the general impression is false, and the
answer to question 1 (above) is that HM Treasury IS connected to
the other HM Treasuries, would you please be so kind as to tell me
the name of your Parent Company?

Yours sincerely,

Veronica: of the Chapman family

a simple google search would show that these are just address of the various offices of the Treasury.

The bizarre conspiracy theories of people who use this site really worry me at time. The fact that my taxes have to go towards producing an answer just annoys me.

BTW, Ben, is it OK to remind you that your taxes have helped to kill innocent men, women, children & babies in Iraq & Afghanistan (and our own Servicemen, of course)? This doesn't upset you, then? Not as much as me asking pertinent FoI questions? Is that it?

Dear Paul: of the Morran family,

Thank you very much for the information, Paul. As ever you have
responded in the spirit of my questions, something for which I am
eternally grateful.

I note that you, and your colleagues, were 'mildy surprised' to
discover a somewhat chequered history for HM Treasury (possibly
associated with something called THE UNITED KINGDOM CORPORATION).
We all live & learn, do we not?

I'll consider this matter closed & answered ... for now ... however
the perplexing reason for these entities being listed as Trading
Corporations on D&B is ... still a bit perplexing ... to say the
least, is it not?

Yours sincerely,

Veronica: of the Chapman family.
