Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to request statistics on
*alcohol related incidents in Manchester, such as anti social
behaviour, violence and crime since the new licensing laws were
introduced in 2005,
*the amount of police time involved since the new licensing law, in
Manchester,
*the number of public houses that have applied for extended opening
hours in Manchester and how many of that total were approved.
Also, if possible,i would like any statistics on binge drinking in
the Manchester area.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully,
Ailie Tinsley

Dear Ailie
Ref GSA 541/08
many thanks for your Freedom of Information request to Greater Manchester
Police. In order to assist you and to research the relevant data, can you
please clarify the following:
can you please be more specific on the type of incidents you require
information on? The term Anti Social Behaviour is a broad generic term,
encompassing many types of incidents/crimes - if you could supply a list
of incidents that would be greatly appreciated.
Please clarify "the amount of police time involved"
Also please clarify your meaning of statistics on binge drinking - I
anticipate we are not likely to be able to supply this, as the term "binge
drinking" is not used for recording purposes within GMP, terms such as
drunk and disorderly, excessive drinking etc are used, however it depends
on your definition.
Please note, the 20 working days for processing your request can not
commence until your response is received. Please respond by Thurs 17th
April 2008 otherwise we will assume your request is no longer required and
it will be cancelled.
kind regards
Philip Humphreys

Dear Sir or Madam,
Here is my clarification of terms-
Anti-social behaviour-I would like to know of statistics of drunk
and disorderly, fighting, all aspects of abuse and criminal damage
within the city centre.
For the police time request, I would like to know if the number of
police put on patrol in the evening (6pm - closing time of public
houses)has increased since the new licensing law.
And binge drinking I would clarify as Excessive drinking and if it
has increased or decreased since the new licensing law.
thank you again.
Yours sincerely,

Ailie,
Thank you for your response.
However, your request is still not clear for example, you are asking for '
Statistics on drunk and disorderly fighting' information is not recorded
in this format on our system, furthermore, if an individual is
arrested/charged for fighting it would be for an assault and not for drunk
and disorderly fighting.
The other question relating to 'All aspects of abuse and criminal damage
within the city', again abuse needs to be clarified, what type of abuse?
Domestic abuse? are you asking for any assaults relating to alcohol? You
also needs to clarify which city centre? Is this Manchester City Centre?
In order to provide advice and assistance under s16 of the Freedom Of
Information Act, in compiling your request , I would appreciate if you
contact me on 0161 856 2528/2529 at the earliest, I am available Mon - Fri
07.30 - 15.30.
I await your call.
