I would like to make a request in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act (FOI).
During the period 01 January 2008 to 01 January 2009:
1. How many Police Constables were employed by your force?
2. How many of these were transfers?
3. How many officers were promoted to higher ranks during the above
period?
4. How many current vacancies are there within the force, and what
are these vacancies?
5. How many officers classify themself as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or
Transgender (LGBT)?

Thank you for your request for information dated 03/08/2009 which for
clarity I have repeated.
During the period 01 January 2008 to 01 January 2009:
1. How many Police Constables were employed by your force?
2. How many of these were transfers?
3. How many officers were promoted to higher ranks during the above
period?
4. How many current vacancies are there within the force and what
are these vacancies?
5. How many officers classify themself as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or
Transgender (LGBT)?
Your request for information has now been considered and our response is
detailed below.
Response to question 1 - As at 5 January 2009 there were 3273.03 FTE
Police Constables in Thames Valley Police. The total number of officers
(all ranks) at this time was 4,230.94.
Response to question 2 - During 2008-09 there were a total of 38.69
transfers in or back to Thames Valley Police of police officers.
Response to question 3 - Between 1 Jan 08 and 1 Jan 09 there were 138
officers promoted to a higher rank.
Response to question 4 - As at July 2009 there were 65.00 FTE Police Staff
Vacancies and 5.77 police officer vacancies. I am not obliged to provide
details of vacancies as this is exempt by virtue of Section 21 of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Information available to the public by
other means. To assist you in this matter I have provided the following
