Special Operations Executive

Beverly Treml made this Freedom of Information request to National Archives

The authority would like to / has responded by post to this request.

From: Beverly Treml

8 March 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am trying to obtain information held by the National Archives.
The number of the file is on the website and it has been opened.

My husband has rung at least half-a-dozen times trying to get
through to the right department. However, each time he has been put
on hold or told that there is no-one available to take his request.
As we live on a pension we cannot continue to waste money on
abortive 'phone calls trying to get information to which we are
entitled.

I am aware it is possible to obtain information via the internet
but we do not have a credit card nor would we be willing to trust
paying online and we are unable to get to London in person. The
only way therefore, would be by post or 'phone.

I would be grateful if you could tell me how we can proceed
further.

With thanks.

Yours faithfully,
Beverly Treml

Dear Sir or Madam,

Having just read that someone else's request was sent to the wrong
department with only FIVE days to my deadline I hope mine is in the
right place!

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mrs Treml

Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately, I can find no trace of
your earlier request. I have checked whatdotheyknow.com for your original
request. Normally, if you wrote in asking for a copy of a document, and
quoting the document reference, we would have sent you a record copying
form.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, our statutory duty is to tell you if
we hold information, which we have done, and to make this information
available to you. We fulfil our statutory obligation by providing access
to the document at the National Archives at Kew, or by providing you with
the ability to order a copy remotely.

If you provide your name and address, we will send you a record copying
form for you to fill in and return by post. Our record copying department
will send you an estimate of the cost of copying the document and you can
send a cheque in payment. I am sorry that you could not speak to the
record copying department, but Record Copying do not take orders over the
telephone, so your only options are to apply online or by post.

I am sorry that you have had this problem. If you want to take this
further, please say so when you provide your name and address and I will
pass this on to our complaints manager.

Yours sincerely
Vivienne Bales
