Special Educational Needs provision in Manchester

Michelle Daniel made this Freedom of Information request to Manchester City Council

The request was successful.

From: Michelle Daniel

31 August 2010

Dear Manchester City Council,

The government has announced it’s launching a Green Paper in the
autumn to look at a wide range of issues for children with SEN and
disabilities
They’re promising to listen to the views of parents, teachers and
organisations with an interest in this area all of whom have
complained of not being listened to in the past. Overall the
government says the system needs to be far more transparent and
parents need to be given more choice be involved in the
decision-making process.
With this open approach in mind I should like the answers to the
following with specific reference to Manchester:

* How many primary aged children in Manchester have been identified
as being on the SEN spectrum?

* How many secondary aged children in Manchester have been
identified as being on the SEN spectrum?

* How many primary aged children are in specialists units versus
mainstream education?

* How many secondary aged children are in specialists units versus
mainstream education?

* How much is spent on supporting SEN children in mainstream
primary education?

* How much is spent on supporting SEN children in mainstream
secondary education?

* How many primary aged children in Manchester are being educated
in specialist units?

* How many secondary aged children in Manchester are being educated
in specialist units?

* In the last 5 years how many children have been transferred from
Specialist units to mainstream education?

Yours faithfully,

Michelle Daniel
