Social Pedagogy
Patrick O'Neill made this Freedom of Information request to Lancashire County Council
The request was successful.
From: Patrick O'Neill
4 August 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
Please could you inform me of the details of the Social Pedagogy
Pilot Scheme. For example, can you describe how it differs from
ordinary residential care.
How is it being implemented and to what extent?
If staff are not trained or qualified in social pedagogy how can
they provide it?
If social pedagogy is used to a greater degree in the future has
the council done a costing of an extension to the current pilot
scheme?
Yours faithfully,
Patrick O'Neill

Dear Mr O'Neill,
Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
Further to your earlier email, please accept our apologies for the delay
in responding. We have just managed to obtain some information regarding
the pilot, and can advise you as follows:
The Social Pedagogue pilot, which is running in East Lancashire, is
Government sponsored through DCSF and being managed by Thomas Coram
Research Institute, with Jacaranda doing the recruitment of European
qualified Pedagogues. Two pedagogues have been recruited to work in
Lancashire, though they have not yet started.
We are in the process of obtaining additional information about the pilot
and will contact you again when we are in a position to respond further.
Once again, we apologise for the delay.
Yours sincerely,
Freedom of Information Team

Dear Mr O'Neill,
Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
Further to your e-mail dated 4^th August 2009 and our reply dated 3^rd
September 2009 we are now able to provide more information.
An update is contained in the attached document.
No costing exercise has been done on any extension to the current pilot
scheme as it would currently not be feasible in the UK as there are no
qualified Pedagogues and no Higher Education Institute in the United
Kingdom is running a degree in Social Pedagogy.
We trust that our response is to your satisfaction, but in the event that
you wish to complain about the manner in which your enquiry has been
handled, you should write in the first instance to The Freedom of
Information Officer, Lancashire County Council, PO Box 78, County Hall,
