Dear Sir or Madam,

Many thanks for your reply.

In relation to point 4, I would like a schedule of the
benefit-in-kind value of accommodation provided to University staff
beit rent-free or below market charge.

In relation to point 5, please provide a schedule of
benefit-in-kind at relevant intervals (along similar lines to the
salaries table you have already issued).

On point 6, please can you clarify what is meant by 'directly
owned'. If there are further properties in which the University has
a shared interest, please disclose these also.

Yours sincerely,

Dr K J Hamer

Dear Dr K J Hamer,

We are collating the information you have requested and this will be ready for you shortly. In the meantime can you clarify what you mean by 'relevant intervals' in relation to your request under point 5 please? Particularly the term 'relevant', as I'm not entirely sure what this means in this context.

Kind regards,

Thank you for your message. To clarify 'relevant intervals' - I do
not know what the maximum and minimum benefit levels are; so if
there is only a £5,000 gap between top and bottom, a table might
have 5 intervals of £1,000. On the other hand, if there the maximum
and minimum has a difference of £50,000, there might be 10
intervals of £5,000. I hope it is appropriate, can you provide 10
intervals between top and bottom: e.g.
£0 - £100 n=3
£101-£200 n=12
£201-£300 n=0
£301-£400 n=21
£401-£500 n=2
£501-£600 n=5
£601-£700 n=6
£701-£800 n=3
£801-£900 n=2
£901-£1000 n=1

Yours sincerely,
Dr K J Hamer

When responding to this message, please use your e-mail system reply and do not alter the subject line, since we need to use the details to process your response. Thank you.

Dear Dr K J Hamer

We can confirm that we do hold the information you have requested.

In answer to your point 6, directly owned refers to property owned by the University. The University has no shared interest in any property. The University is also trustee of two trusts which own property.

Due to a mixture of key staff being on leave I am struggling to complete points 4 and 5 of your request below within the statutory time limit of 20 working days. Would you agree to an extra 10 working days to complete the processing of this information?

Yours sincerely

Lee Shailer

Note : Dear Dr K J Hamer

Further to our email correspondence this morning I have been able to complete the compilation of information in response to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) more quickly than I originally thought.

We can confirm that we do hold the information you have asked for in points 4 and 5 of your request. The relevant information is attached.

Under the tab 'Accommodation only' the attached provides a list of employees (anonymised) and their accommodation benefits-in-kind for the tax year 2007/2008. Under the tab 'Intervals' there is a table showing the numbers of employees in receipt of a benefits-in-kind of any description within each interval, again for the tax year 2007/2008.

The FOIA requires that we include details of our complaints procedures, including your rights to apply to the Information Commissioner. The procedure is detailed in our FOIA policy on the web at http://www.reading.ac.uk/foi/FOI_policy_... :

'In the case of a complaint, in the first instance details should be reported in writing (by post or email) to IMPS, at the above address.
