Senior Research Fellow Appointment

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS made this Freedom of Information request to Local Government Ombudsmen

The request was partially successful.

From: Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

25 August 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

On what date did Mr WHITE make the CLAE aware that he had been
appointed as a Senior Research Fellow in the School of History,
Classics and Archaeology at the University of London (Birkbeck
College).

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/birkb...

Please further identify the number of hours that Mr White committed
to this task each week, and that took him away from his function as
both a Local Government Ombudsman and Deputy Chair of the CLAE. The
employment does not appear to be declared in the register of
interests

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Hardwicke Carruthers

Dear Foi Officer,

s1.1 of the FOI Act

In my personal opinion it is also in the public interest for
complainants and the Secretary of State and their department to be
aware of this issue in relation to the Deputy Chair of the CLAE.

The employment appears not to be registered in the register of
interests of the CLAE that you kindly made available dated 23 April
2008...

It is in my belief that it is the public interest for people to
know for how long Mr White has held two jobs and if that has been
reflected in his terms and conditions.

The University of London have identified that Mr White holds two
jobs.. and obtained his 'chair' on the ground that he was already
employed by the University

review is still requested.. as University of London have identified
that Mr White was not appointed as a visiting Professor in 2006..
he was appointed as a Senior Research Assistant.. they are
currently seeking to determine why this was not based on an
interview.. etc..

.. and that on the basis of Mr White having been employed as a
Senior Research Assistant it was possible to offer him a position
as a member of faculty..

Hope you had a good holiday.

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

Anne Hide left an annotation (24 September 2009)

Am I understanding this right? Taxpayers were paying for a full time LGO whilst the LGO in question was working as a paid research assistant for a University.

1) No wonder he resigned.
2) Can't be very taxing being an LGO if they can hold down two jobs.
