Dear Mr Agnew

I refer to your request for information about Scottish aviation passenger
details. Your request was received on 6 April 2009 and I am dealing with
it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Under section 21 of the Act, we are not required to provide information
which is already reasonably accessible to you.

The first four items of information you requested are available on the
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) website, in the `Aviation Statistics'
section ([1]http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=80). If you do not
have access to the Internet at home, you may be able to use facilities at
your local public library, or you can request a print out of the tables by
contacting me. In the `UK Airport Statistics' section the latest data
available is for 2008, which can be found at:
[2]http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=...
. The tables which contain the relevant statistics that you have requested
on passenger numbers at each Scottish airport are: `Table 10.3 - Terminal
Passengers 1998-2008', `Table 10.2 - Domestic Terminal Passenger Traffic
2008', and `Table 10.1 - EU and Other International Terminal Passenger
Traffic 2008'.

The final two items of information you requested on the breakdown of
passenger types are available from the CAA Passenger Survey. Scottish
airports were last surveyed in 2005 and the results published in `CAA
Passenger Survey Report 2005', which can be found at:

[3]http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=... .

In 2005 the Scottish airports surveyed were: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow,
Inverness and Prestwick.

You have requested a breakdown of passenger numbers into three types:
luxury, business and freight. Neither `luxury' nor `freight' is a
recognised passenger type, so no information is held in respect of these
categories. The recognised categories are business and leisure, and
information on the number of passengers at the surveyed Scottish airports
in each of those categories can be found in tables 4a&b in `CAA Passenger
Survey Report 2005'. Table 3 in the report shows the breakdown of
passengers by terminating and connecting passengers for both domestic and
international journeys.

Further breakdowns of the survey results are available on request to DfT
or CAA.

Statistics on freight (tonnes) at Scottish airports are available on the
CAA website in the `Aviation Statistics' section in `Table 13.2 - Freight
1998-2008'.
