Dear Michael,
Thank you for your quick response.
If it's OK, I'd like to clarify my request:
a)
When you say "none that I am aware of", do you mean that you have
searched the Council's records and found no
donations/gifts/hospitality from any of the named organisations? Or
do you mean that solely in your own personal recollection there
have been no such gifts?
b)
Photos and video show the Jice Aces playing on Cambridge Market
Square on or around 8 June 2007. If this performance was freely
donated by Jive Aces to the Council, why does it not appear in your
records? If it was not freely donated by Jive Aces, then did the
Council pay Jive Aces to perform?
c)
Did the Council issue a permit for Jive Aces to perform on that
date, and if so, was the Council aware of the link between Jive
Aces and Scientology recruitment? What background checks (if any)
does the Council undertake on performers?
Thank you again for your time and attention.
Yours sincerely,
William Thackeray

Dear William
Sorry as my response was supposed to be to Ceri Littlechild not yourself as my response is only related to the services I manage at the city council (Refuse collection, Fleet and street enforcement). My response was only informing her that I had no knowledge of any gifts, hospitality or donations to organisations promoting Scientologyin my service area. Ceri Littlechild is collecting the information from our other departments and then a collated response will be sent to you from the council.
As for the clarification you have asked for I feel it would be better to wait for the full councils reply as your question may answered in that. But I will forward these on so that they can be addressed if not.
Regards
Michael

Dear Mr Thackeray
I write in response to your Freedom of Information request of 4 February
regarding gifts, hospitality or donations received by Cambridge City
Council from organisations promoting Scientology, over the past 5 years.
I can confirm that the Council has not received any gifts, hospitality or
donations from Scientology organisations.
Your e mail of 9 February made reference to a performance by the Jive Aces
that took place in Cambridge Market Square on or around 8 June 2007. I
can confirm that the Council holds records of performances of the Jive
Aces on 9 June 2007, and also on 23 February 2008. The Council did not
receive a donation or any form of payment for these performances.
I have attached copies of letters from Cambridge City Council to Jive Aces
setting out the conditions of their performances. Some personal
information has been redacted from these letters for data protection
purposes.
Many artists and groups like to perform in Cambridge. Buskers and street
performers do not need to request prior permission for this as long as
they follow the Street Performers Code of Practice. This can be found on
our website at
[1]http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/ccm/content/....
The Council’s City Centre Management team are sometimes contacted by
street theatre companies or groups who may be coming from a distance and
therefore want to ensure that space will be available for them to
perform. If groups advertise their performance as an event they need to
apply to the licensing team for a Temporary Events Notice.
If you are not happy with the information given above or are not happy
with the way in which your request has been dealt with please contact
Antoinette Jackson, Director of Customer & Democratic Services. You may
also contact the Information Commissioner if you are still not happy with
the way it has been dealt with. The Information Commissioner’s address
is
