Dear Sir or Madam,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST

Please could you provide, in electronic format (eg comma-delimited
text, Excel or other spreadsheet/database format, zipped/compressed
if you deem it necessary), a data dump of the 30000-odd .sch.uk
Domain Names created and registered as part of the Domain Names
Rationalisation Project, also known as "School Names on the Net".

I'd like to obtain the following data: Name of School, DCSF number,
LEA number, .sch.uk domain name, and the general contact email
address

Any assistance you can provide in letting me know how you hold or
structure this data would be appreciated in order to avoid the need
to create new information to satisfy this request.

Yours faithfully,

Alex Skene

Many thanks for your email

According to

"The "School Names on the Net" project allocated every school in
England with a unique Domain Name in a logical, coherent and
transparent way."

"The "School Names on the Net" project is a key element of the
Government's National Grid for Learning programme.

It was carried out in association with the British Educational
Communications and Technology agency (BECTa) on behalf of the
Department for Education and Skills (DfES), the Scottish Executive
Education Department (SEED), the Welsh Assembly Education
Department and the local education authorities of England, Scotland
and Wales."

According to the current National Grid for Learning website

Are you saying that BECTA no longer has records from this project

Kind regards,

Dear Alex,

Thank you for your further enquiry, where you were wishing to confirm that

“Becta no longer has records from this [School Names on the Net] project from 1999-2001 that contains the information requested?”

I have dealt with your request in terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Under the Act I can confirm that Becta has never held the information you request in your email of 13th Aug. And would point you to my response dated 15th of Aug to your initial request.

Becta's role in the School Names on the Net project was strategic, rather than operational. Becta's input was in relation to identifying appropriate eligibility criteria for use of the sch.uk domain and how school domain names should be structured, not administering the domain ourselves.

If you have any further queries about this, please contact me.

Regards
