Dear Ms Davis

Thank you for your request (our reference AR/42154) forwarded by Jessica
Trevitt.

Please find attached a spreadsheet of all Scheduled Monuments in England.
It is a large file and there are over 20,000 rows. The grid references are
absolute as each is calculated as the centre point of the scheduled area,
which is usually a polygon. The file is actually derived from the spatial
dataset available on our website
[1]http://services.english-heritage.org.uk/... and saved in
Excel. I would be happy to talk you through the process.

The descriptions of the sites (including dates of creation/phases of
development) tend to be longer textual entries held as separate documents,
so I'm afraid it isn't possible to transfer them into a spreadsheet
format. I have attached an example of a description which includes an
assessment of importance to illustrate this. I have also attached the
related map extract. We can usually provide this sort of information on
individual sites.

I hope this proves helpful. If I can be of any further assistance, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
