Royal Navy Serial Numbers 1962

Alistair Gibbons made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence

The request was partially successful.

From: Alistair Gibbons

31 July 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like some information regarding a serial number found on
the back of a watch I own.

Where was the number issued?
What was the rank or regiment of the sailor?
What is the Navy policy on sailors personal items that are worn on
duty?

This is the name and serial number engraved on the back of the
watch;

R. G. Holloway
P/064195

Yours faithfully,

Alistair Gibbons

Mr Ormerod left an annotation ( 1 September 2008)

The s40 (Personal Information) exemption will only apply if Mr Holloway is still alive, given the fact that the DPA Principles apply to living individuals only.

Therefore, if you are aware whether Mr Holloway is alive or not, it might be worth raising this with the MoD.
