Dear Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs,

Please could you tell me when supplying closed rings for schedule
four birds to breeders in the last 10 years?
What quality controls were undertaken by DEFRA/Natural England on
the rings when supplied and were the rings checked for
manufacturing faults before sending them to the breeders?
Please can I have a detailed breakdown of what checks were made for
any manufacturing faults or damage to rings before they were sent
out?
Were any faults ever found on rings before being sent out.
To have such a quality control a written list of checks must have
been produced for DEFRA/Natural England members of staff to follow
can i have a copy of this please.

Yours faithfully,

Des Prior

Dear Andrews, Tim (ERG-BIO),

I just need clarification on this matter.
Are DEFRA saying they have no records of any information I have
requested below or are DEFRA saying none of the below was
undertaken when rings were issued?
The reason I am asking this is I believe the following.
any bird sold under licence must be ringed with a legible
individually numbered metal close ring, which is a ring or band in
a continuous circle (without any break, join, or any signs of
tampering since it was manufactured) it is also stated that any
manufacturing faults are detected at source and not sent out. As
DEFRA was a provider of rings for schedule 4 birds they should have
had a quality control in place so any rings with manufacturing
faults were detected and not sent out, if this is not the case who
undertook the quality control to check to see if any of the rings
had manufacturing faults and to make sure the rings comply with the
EU ringing directive?

What quality controls were undertaken by DEFRA/Natural England on
the rings when supplied and were the rings checked for
manufacturing faults before sending them to the breeders?
Please can I have a detailed breakdown of what checks were made for
any manufacturing faults or damage to rings before they were sent
out?
Were any faults ever found on rings before being sent out?
To have such a quality control a written list of checks must have
been produced for DEFRA/Natural England members of staff to follow
can I have a copy of this please?

Yours sincerely,

Des Prior
