RGHQ Bunker At Woodside Inds Estate Ballymena
Alistair McCann made this Freedom of Information request to Northern Ireland Office
The request was partially successful.
From: Alistair McCann
7 April 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Alistair McCann and I am a member of the Royal Observer
Corps Association here in Northern Ireland.
The RGHQ Bunker in Ballymena was used after the stand-down of the
Corps here in Northern Ireland to store equipment that was
no-longer needed.
I have been in the Bunker with one of your employees on an official
visit and was allowed to take a number of items for display at our
museum.
I was told that another visit could be arranged so that we could
procure more items from the bunker. It is only a small number of
items, that we forgot to take last time.
All of these items are going to the new museum at Long Kesh (Former
Maze Prison site) we would be crediting the NIO for allowing us to
take the items.
The reason I am contacting you through this website is that I
stupidly lost the phone number of the official who guided me round
the bunker.
I am aware that "official" visits are not carried out and that you
only carry out routine checks every few months. I would have no
problem attending during one of these visits as it wold only take
me 5 minutes to obtain the items we need. I would be able to go
into more detail on the items if I am able to get the contact
number or email of whoever deals with the bunker.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Alistair McCann

Dear FOI,
I have been contacted by the person who showed me around the
Ballymena site and have arranged another visit so you do not have
to go to any further trouble in regards to Ballymena.
Thanks for getting back to me so promptly though!
As for Gough Barracks, any help in getting in touch with the
relevant body would be most helpful.
Yours sincerely,
Alistair McCann
