Review of care home provision for adults with learning disabilities
Nindi Kaar made this Freedom of Information request to Birmingham City Council
The request was refused by Birmingham City Council.
From: Nindi Kaar
16 January 2010
Dear Birmingham City Council,
Review of care home provision for adults with learning disabilities
With respect to the contract management activity the Joint
Commissioning Team is undertaking to ensure current care home
provision for adults with learning disabilities, purchased by
Birmingham City Council, is on a sustainable basis and with pricing
based on a better understanding of care costs to meet needs. I
understand that a programme of reviews of the highest cost
residential care placements of adults with learning disabilities
made by the City is being undertaken. Additionally the Joint
Commissioning Team is reviewing the pricing of packages by using
the care funding calculator to ensure care packages demonstrate
best value to the Council. Part of this activity includes
determining the number of care hours a person needs. This is also
an intrinsic part of the review of care packages being delivered to
service users.
Please could you let me know
A) The annualised cost savings made as a result of the reviews of
the highest cost residential care placements of adults with
learning disabilities made by the City as at 15 January 2010
B) The costs incurred by the Joint Commissioning Team in achieving
these annualised cost savings. These costs incurred should include
as a minimum an aggregation of i) salaries of the members
(including National insurance, tax, bonuses etc) of the Joint
Commissioning Team for the period since the review process was
initiated as a project by Birmingham City Council ii) Costs of
legal advice and consultancy advice related to the project since it
was initiated iii) all other relevant project costs which are
capable of being tracked
Yours faithfully,
Nindi Kaar
Birmingham City Council
