Research into Web Site
A Freedom of Information request to North Down Borough Council by Colin Marshall
The request was successful.
Colin Marshall
28 June 2008
Dear Sir or Madam,
Can you please tell me if any research has ever been conducted or
commissioned relating to the Council's web site? (For example, what
the public would like to see on it, how usable it is, etc.) This
should not include wide-ranging eternal studies that survey many
council sites at once, if not directly requested by the Council,
but solely research that the Council itself has carried out or
directly authorised. This should include any research carried out
amongst staff or council members, and even informal or ad hoc
research (such as collating comments made) should be included.
If any such research has been performed, I would request electronic
copies of any final reports and/or presentations produced, along
with details of when the report was produced, by whom, and at what
cost.
Yours faithfully,
Colin

Dear Colin , with reference to the above Freedom Of Information Request
received from you by Email on the 30th June last please find attached a
copy of a survey on the Councils Website that was conducted during
November 2007. This survey was published on the Councils Website and in
the North Down Matters magazine which is distributed to each household in
the Borough. A copy of the survey results is also attached, however to
date no final formal report has been completed.
I trust this information is of help to you and if I can be of any further
assistance please feel free to contact me at the address below

Dear James,
Thank you very much for this information - it is very interesting
despite the small sample size. That only 7 people took the survey
on line is quite surprising.
Was it on the website for the entire month on November? Do you know
how many distinct visitors there were duing that time? How was it
promoted (e.g. was it just a link on the homepage suggesting people
take the survey, or a pop-up, or some other approach)? Do you know
how many users started to take the survey but never completed it?
When you say that "to date no final formal report has been
completed", does this mean that one is expected to be completed at
some stage (and if so, do you have an estimate for when that might
be), or that an informal or interim report was produced but it is
not yet known if a full report will be?
Thanks again for your assistance,
Colin

Dear Colin,
I refer to your Email request for further
clarification to my response to you of 28th July 2008 and your original
FOI request of the 30th June relating to the above.
I respond as follows to each of the points you required clarified --
1 The Survey was on the website for the entire month of November 2007
2 During November 2007 there were 9,408 unique visitors to the website
3 It was promoted as a news item through the home page inviting visitors
to take the survey
4 We do not hold information of users who started, but did not complete
the survey
5 With regard to a report being completed we have incorporated a number
of the suggestions from users into the website and will report to Council
in October on our progress
I trust this clarification of the points in question is of assistance and
if I can be of any further help please feel free to contact me at the
address below
Kind Regards
