Research into Web Site
A Freedom of Information request to Carrickfergus Borough Council by Colin Marshall
The request was partially successful.

28 June 2008
Dear Sir or Madam,
Can you please tell me if any research has ever been conducted or
commissioned relating to the Council's web site? (For example, what
the public would like to see on it, how usable it is, etc.) This
should not include wide-ranging eternal studies that survey many
council sites at once, if not directly requested by the Council,
but solely research that the Council itself has carried out or
directly authorised. This should include any research carried out
amongst staff or council members, and even informal or ad hoc
research (such as collating comments made) should be included.
If any such research has been performed, I would request electronic
copies of any final reports and/or presentations produced, along
with details of when the report was produced, by whom, and at what
cost.
Yours faithfully,
Colin

Dear Sir or Madam,
Can you please update me as to the status of this request, which I
believe should have been answered by now?

Good afternoon Mr Marshall
Regarding your request the details which I have been given and can provide you with are as follows:
* £27,000 for development and design of website, plus a monthly fee for hosting. I am still trying to get the details regarding the cost of the monthly fee, and apologise for the delay.
* No research has been commissioned
* 2 consultation exercises were carried out on the website internally to council prior to it going live. The first consultation was about the design and usability of the site and the second was about the information contained therein. If you require a copy of this please let me know.
I will be in touch in the near future regarding the monthly cost for hosting the website.
Regards

Dear Lynn,
Thank you for this information.
In relation to the costs you have provided (and the other costs you
plan to provide later), I suspect those are in relation to a
different request! (If so, and it's the request I'm thinking of,
that was actually made by someone I work with, so I can pass these
on to him, but I think you should probably respond directly to him
anyway.)
As for the consultation exercises, copies of those would be much
appreciated, thank you.

Dear Colin
Now I'm confused, as the request to which I referred earlier to-day came
from what appeared to be your e mail address.
Was the FOI request reminder which you sent in this morning in relation
to a different request? If so, could you send me a copy of your
original request so that I can ensure that it is addressed in case there
has been a mix up at our end. Sorry for any confusion.
Many thanks
Lynn

Colin
This is the request which I received? Is this the one to which you
referred?

Hi Lynn,
My request, sent on June 28th, was relating to research into the
website's content/usability etc, and that's what I sent a reminder
about this morning.
About a week after I made that request my colleage Nick McBride
made a separate request for information about the costs of your
website.
It seemed from your response here that you may have collated those
two requests into one as you included details of the developing and
hosting costs here even though I had never asked for those.
I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.
