Dear Sir or Madam,
To ask what percentage of prisoners are permitted to attend i)
Roman Catholic services ii) Church of Scotland services iii) Other
Church services. iv) Other religious services.
To ask whether in order to attend a particular service the prisoner
must be registered as being of that religion.
Thank you for your patience in dealing with this request.
Yours faithfully,
Alastair Manderson

Dear Sir
With reference to your e-mail dated 4 June 2008 I thought it might be
useful to clarify with you some aspects of your request.
In general terms anyone can attend any religious service they wish so long
as they advise staff in advance.
The number of people who go to services are relatively small. I can, if
you wish, ask our Chaplains for further details.
Yours faithfully

Dear Mr Manderson
Thank you for your email below.
As I said in a previous e-mail, any prisoner who wishes to attend a religious service is permitted to do so. Some religious services are actually dependent upon demand. For instance, in the Muslim tradition there is a requirement for a minimum of 3 (2 participants plus an Imam) for Muslim prayers to be held on a Friday. Consequently, due to insufficient numbers from time to time, these may not take place.
The table I have supplied is not exhaustive and is merely an indicator of the average attendance at such services compiled for me by our Chaplaincy Advisers.
If you require any further assistance in this matter please do not hesitate to contact me.
With best wishes
Yours sincerely
Tom Fox
