Dear FoI Officer,

I am writing to make an Open Government request for all the
information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000.

In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query
as specifically as possible.

If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be
grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the
Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.

I would like to request information on social workers. Do you
recruit easily from the UK? Do you recruit from abroad and if so
where from? What checks do both UK and foreign social workers have
to go through before being cleared to work with Children?

I understand that under the Act, I should be entitled to a response
within 20 working days. I would be grateful if you could confirm in
writing or by email that you have received this request. I look

Dear Ms Simpson

Freedom of Information Reference: 08187FOI

Subject: Request for information regarding recruitment of social workers

Further to previous correspondence in respect of the above matter,
Lincolnshire County Council is now pleased to be able to provide you with
the information you requested.

Qu 1) Do you recruit social workers easily from the UK?

Ans. We have a proactive recruitment campaign for social workers in the
UK which involves:

. Attendance at recruitment fairs

. Work with the local university to support final year students
into work

. A comprehensive induction programme for newly qualified social
workers

. On the job training once in post

. Favourable terms and conditions.

Qu 2) Do you recruit social workers from abroad and if so where from?

Ans. Recruitment of social workers is a national problem but through our
proactive work we do not need to recruit social workers from overseas
proactively. As all our jobs are advertised on the Internet we do receive
applications from overseas staff. We follow all requirements laid down by
the UK Border Agency to ensure we are not employing staff illegally.

Qu 3) What checks do both UK and foreign social workers have to go
through before being cleared to work with Children?

Ans. With regard to safeguarding all new staff are CRB checked and should
be providing a Certificate of Good Repute from their relevant UK embassy
where they are able to obtain one. All Social Workers must also be GSCC
registered.

We believe we have answered your request in full. However, if you have
any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely
