Mr D Ferguson (Account suspended) left an annotation (17 June 2009)

Kent County Council appears very secretive and protective of its policies and procedures.

You could ask how much money they are putting forward to recruit if you do not get a successful answer, after reading their posts this is highly likely.

Dear Ms Quinn

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

Kent County Council's Children's Services team has a forum called the CSS
Recruitment Group which meets on a regular basis to monitor levels of
staffing and arrange recruitment to vacancies as required. Recruitment
campaigns are carried out under the terms of KCC's best practice policies
and information about our recruitment methods are published on the main
council website [1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/jobs-and-careers/. We are
passionate about fairness and diversity and operate under the Job Centre
Plus "Two Ticks" policy. Advertisements for Social Workers are published
on this website on a rolling basis and we occasionally conduct campaigns
using specialist recruitment agencies. From time to time and according to
requirements, we publish recruitment advertisements in specialist
publications such as Community Care and national newspapers like The
Guardian. KCC makes every effort to reduce costs by training and
developing its own social workers. We recruit people at non-qualified
levels and train them via our own systems and in conjunction with
universities. Our policies and procedures for recruitment and selection
interviewing are constantly updated to meet the requirements of best
practice in both the public and private sectors and staff involved in
recruitment and selection receive the necessary training to meet the
standards.

I have also attached a document on the recruitment of care managers from
Kent Adult Social Services.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[2]http://www.kent.gov.uk/council-and-democ...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/09/675.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner's website

Dear Kent County Council,

RE: Request for review of information request
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/re...

I do not feel you have fully responded to my information request.
You have just provided policy statements. I have asked for far more
specific information. For example please see the response I have
from another local authority, for the exact same information
request.

Response from Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Recruitment of Social Workers
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/re...

Unlike the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea you have decided
to take a very narrow view of what I requested.

Therefore please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Kent County Council's
handling of my FOI request 'Recruitment of Social Workers'.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Charlotte R Quinn
