Dear University of Liverpool,

Under duties arising from Section 71 of the Race Relations Act
[1976], as amended by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000,
public institutions including Higher Education Institutions, are
required to have due regard, when carrying out their functions, to
the need to:

• Assess how their policies affect BME students and staff and
• Arrange to publish their policy, and the results of assessments
and monitoring.

Please provide me with:

A copy of the Race Equality Impact Assessment outcomes to
include:

(a) University of Liverpool's screening policies or legislative
proposals to determine whether they are relevant to race equality

(b) how policies identified as being relevant are fully assessed in
order to make sure they do not have adverse effects on any racial
groups

(c) the assessment outcomes in relation to University of
Liverpool's grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures

Please send me this information within 20 working days.

Dear Mr. Sharif,

Thank you for your email of 19^th January 2010 requesting information
about the University’s Race Quality Impact Assessment.  I am pleased to
enclose the requested information.

The University is committed to providing an environment which recognises
and values people's differences, capitalises on the strengths that those
differences bring to the institution and support all staff and students in
maximising their potential to succeed.  The University is also committed
to fulfilling its obligations under equality legislation.

Please see our Race Equality Scheme and associated Action Plan which are
available to view on the University website at [3]http://www.liv.ac.uk .

We have an Equality Impact Assessment Toolkit.  Please find enclosed the
screening and assessment templates supporting this.

In addition a full review of the Grievance Procedure is planned for 2010,
the results of which will also be publicly available through our website.

If you are not satisfied with the University’s response to your request,
you may ask the University to review it.  If you wish to do this, please
write to Mr. Kevan Ryan, Director of Legal, Risk & Compliance, The
